Light Up the Willmar Lakes Area (#LightUpWLA) is a community initiative to spread hope and joy to the Willmar Lakes Area communities during the holiday season. The upcoming holidays have given some individuals yet another reason to forget the light of the world around them; as this may be the first time families are spending time apart due to the pandemic. Even during the hardships of the coronavirus outbreak, our community has seen little lights shine bright. A small act of kindness can make a world of difference to someone, no matter the season or reason.
The ‘Leave the Porch Light On’ aspect of the #LightUpWLA highlights the reminder of hope and light. Have you gone through a community and seen green lights on during November? (A sign of support for our nation’s veterans) Or even this past spring when people put their Christmas lights back up as a sign of support and hope amid the pandemic? We want to continue this initiative of spreading hope and support this holiday season by leaving the porch light on.
Join Us by Leaving a Porch Light On
We are asking that everyone in the Willmar Lakes Area leave their porch or front door light on from 6:00PM to 8:00PM every evening during the week of December 13 through December 19, 2020. The Willmar Municipal Utilities will have complimentary light bulbs available for those in need, and the West Central Tribune has created a giant light bulb for people to print out, color, and post in their windows as a show of support (similar to the window hearts).
