Celebrating Juneteenth Together in the Willmar Lakes Area

On June 19, nearly 400 community members gathered at Miller Park to celebrate Juneteenth through food, music, conversation, and community.

Families, neighbors, volunteers, local organizations, and community leaders came together to recognize an important day in our nation's history while celebrating the diverse people and cultures that make the Willmar Lakes Area stronger.

For Vision 2040, that's what community connection in the Willmar Lakes Area is all about.

Reflecting on History, Investing in Our Future

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Today, communities across the country recognize Juneteenth as a time to reflect on our shared history while looking ahead. It is an opportunity to celebrate freedom, learn from one another, and continue building communities where everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.

As the Willmar Lakes Area continues to grow, events like Juneteenth help create opportunities for neighbors to connect, build relationships, and better understand one another.

A Celebration of Community

Throughout the evening, Miller Park was filled with activity. Families enjoyed food from local vendors, children participated in activities, community members visited with neighbors, and live entertainment highlighted the many cultures represented throughout our region.

More than anything, the evening created space for people to simply spend time together.

Those conversations, shared experiences, and new connections are what strengthen communities over time. They remind us that while our backgrounds may be different, we all have a role in shaping the future of the place we call home.

Thank You to Our Community
